Here you will find all the practical information about the location, opening hours and accessibility of the Letterenhuis.

Opening hours

Museum

The museum part of the Letterenhuis has not been accessible since March 2022. However, the Letterenhuis is open for research in the reading room, for activities and depot visits.

Reading Room

 

Letterenhuis is open.  We will put the well-being of our visitors and employees first. We are taking take various precautions to offer you a pleasant and safe visit.  You can read more about them here. We hope to welcome you soon.

Reading room

You can visit the Letterenhuis reading room by appointment four days a week.

Every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
 

The reading room is also closed on the following days:

  • Mondays and weekends
  • Tuesday 11 July 2023
  • Friday 21 July 2023
  • Tuesday 15 August 2023
  • Wednesday 1 November 2023

Getting there

The Letterenhuis is in the centre of Antwerp. You will find the building in the Minderbroedersstraat, a side street of the Minderbroedersrui.

On foot/by bike

You find the Letterenhuis in Minderbroedersstraat, a side street of Minderbroedersrui.

Leave your bike in one of the bicycle racks at the corner of Minderbroedersstraat and Minderbroedersrui.

With a Vélo-bicyle (Share-a-Bike system)

You find a Vélo-station at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Blindestraat) and on Minderbroedersrui on front of number 44-46.

By public transport

Use the routeplanner of de Lijn to plan your trip by train, bus, premetro or tram.

The stops KlapdorpKeizerstraat and Sint-Katelijne  are close to Letterenhuis.

Keep in mind that a mask is mandatory when travelling on public transport.

By Waterbus over the Scheldt

The waterbus connects Hemiksem and Lillo and stops at the Steenplein (where you have to get off). If you come from the Left bank, you can also take the ferry. All practical information such as rates and departure times can be found on dewaterbus.be.

Keep in mind that a mask is mandatory when travelling on public transport.

By car

Parking possiblities
The Letterenhuis does not have its own parking lot. Paid parking garages nearby are Parking Groenplaats and Parking Scheldekaai Noord (Jordaenskaai). 

Low emission zone
Are you travelling to Antwerp by car? Then remember that the entire city centre of Antwerp and Linkeroever/Left Bank are low emission zone. Vehicles that emit too much soot and particulate matter may not enter the low emission zone. 

Check before coming to Antwerp whether your vehicle complies with the conditions for entry with this test.

Compulsory registration: all vehicles with a foreign number plate (except Dutch number plates) that comply with the conditions for entry must be registered once-only. Registration is free and can be done up to 24 hours after entering the zone. Register your car here.

Accessibility for wheel-chair users

The front-desk employees will assist wheelchair users to access the Letterenhuis.
The public areas of the building are accessible; the public lifts have not been adapted. If required, you can ask the employees for assistance. There is a specially adapted toilet.
